A two-month cruise around Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

An extensive search operation found her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.

Timeline of Events

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the moment of the 80-year-old's passing. The tropical location was the first stop on the itinerary.

Guests on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkeling.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the liner left the island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Via her announcement, she described her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"Based on limited details we have been provided, it appears that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She continued that she desired the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mother's life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.
