The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.

This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a legislator, called for a gathering of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was determined responsible of orchestrating a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the 2022 election to his political opponent, President Lula.
